Who we are

At tht, we combine passionate knowledge of biotics with the ability to innovate and perform

Bacteria have been around for millennia. As human body is mainly composed by bacteria cells, our microbiome is essential to symbiosis and human health.

Metchnikoff has published in 1907 that live bacteria can also promote health. In 1954, the term “probiotics” with the Greek etymology meaning “for life”, was conceived by Ferdinand Vergin. In 1991, as a pioneer, tht was founded as a spin-off of a Belgian university (ULiège).

In 2001, World Health Organization and Food Agriculture Organization (WHO/FAO) defined the probiotics actual concept as

live microorganisms that, when administrated in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host

tht was the first Belgian company to manufacture microbiological mass for the food industry. Over time, tht has always gone further to provide meaningful and innovative solutions to its customers

We have accumulated experience to industrially produce a wide range of probiotic & postbiotic strains present on the market.  Probiotics are special ingredients, some are sporulated and very resistant, while others are fragile and require precautions for use. tht ‘s mission is to be a biotechnological manufacturing company that supplies biotics to offer responsible solutions to the food industry, the food supplement industry and the cosmetic industry.

OUR HISTORY

OVER 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN BIOTICS

1991

The company tht was founded by Professor Thonart, who teaches at the University of Liège, Belgium. While doing research with students, he quickly understood the need and usefulness for the food industry to include bacteria in their production processes.

2014

tht is ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 certified.

2021

tht needs more space and celebrates its growth with the inauguration of a larger building in Gembloux.

2022

tht is acquired by the Puratos group and becomes the center for Wellness  and Gut health of  Puratos group.

2024

tht becomes GFSI certified.

2024

tht expands its production and sales to Postbiotics

2024

tht  launches new probiotic solution (Lactiplantibacillus plantarum PROVEGE™) for metabolic health market.
